Try Your Best: Parenting During Quarantine

Mama,
I see you over there struggling. I am struggling too.  Some days I'm okay and then some days I feel like I can't even catch my breath. We are in uncharted waters and we are having to learn to sink or swim. This quarantine business is not a walk in the park.

We've never had to parent through a pandemic before and it’s just plain hard. We need lots of prayers. As parents, we worry about our families health and well being. We worry if we have enough groceries without having to go to the store for another week. We have to wear a mask if we do go in a store. We worry about every single little thing! We wonder if we have played with our kids enough during the day. Have we kept the kids entertained enough? Did we help them do their online homework right? Have the kids had too much screen time? Scheduled Bedtimes are almost nonexistent. Everything is chaotic and our anxiety is through the roof!
It's also hard on our precious kids. They don't understand why they aren't going to school. They are confused why all homework is mostly online now. Our kids are struggling because they miss their teachers, their friends and their everyday routine. They can't understand why most of their time is being spent inside the home. They have stayed indoors more than they ever had in their lives. No play dates are allowed. Even something as simple as going to the park is not allowed. Sunday school, church and sports are cancelled. They can't even go inside a store with mommy and daddy or sit down in a restaurant with their family anymore. I can't even begin to imagine what is going through their little minds. Life has changed drastically for our children and ourselves.

So parents, please hang in there. Don't give up! Try your best, that's all you can do and that's all that is expected of you. You don't have to play with your children every single second of the day. You aren't expected to keep a perfectly clean home or even have a four course meal cooked every day. Just be present in your children's lives.  Use this time to grow closer to God and your family. All of this is just a trial, but we will learn and grow from this. We will get through this. It may not feel like it right now, but we will get through this. Better days are ahead! The light will be at the end of the tunnel soon. Keep the faith, try your best and don't forget to pray for and check on each other. Their is no way to be a perfect parent, spouse or family member, just be present and simply try your best.

Also during this time, you need to make sure that you take time for self-care. You can't help others if you're pouring from an empty cup. Try things like Vurbl podcasts as they have some comedy and crafting podcasts which can help you to relax at least for a few hours and to forget about all the terrible things going on right now. Seriously, podcasts are awesome! You can't go wrong with Vurbl. Their comedy podcasts are the best when you are in need of a good laugh. I also love their crafting podcasts. I'm a huge crafter, so these are super helpful. However, my favorite are these educational podcasts for kids and parents. They have been a great help while having to help my son do his online assignments during quarantine. Vurbl has plenty to offer to help making parenting less stressful during this trying time.
